Vocal Session/Mixing Competition

A few days ago, we headed down to Maryland to add vocals to a couple of songs we’re working on with the incredibly talented music producer (and great hang!) Andrew Chapman. Between takes, we chatted a bit about ways to engage listeners in our music-making process and came up with the idea of inviting folks to mix a song of ours called “Pick Up.” And while we’re reluctant to think of music as a competition, we thought it would be fun to pick a favorite from among the mixes everyone comes up with. The plan is for Andrew to sort through the initial submissions and for us to decide which we like the best. There will also be prizes. If you or anyone you know might interested, check out the complete description here: DelCobras and Andrew Chapman Mix Competition.

  1. What a fun idea! Unfortunately, I neither have the equipment/software, nor the technical skills to mix a song. It would be interesting to hear different mixes people submit. I could probably tell you which would be my favorite. BTW, Andrew seems to be a great guy to work with.

      1. Andrew seems to have a great philosophy. Producers really shouldn’t be ego-maniacs. Sure, some guidance is fine, especially when dealing with inexperienced music artists. But at the end of the day a good producer is someone who can help realize a band’s or artist’s vision, not impose their own.

      2. Exactly! I’d take George Martin over Phil Spector any day!
